Industrial rock pioneers Nine Inch Nails have officially reentered the spotlight with the announcement of their TRON: Ares soundtrack — their first new music as a band in over five years, and their first-ever film score under the Nine Inch Nails moniker. The soundtrack drops September 19 via Interscope Records, just weeks ahead of the highly anticipated release of TRON: Ares in U.S. theaters on October 10.
Though frontman Trent Reznor and longtime collaborator Atticus Ross are no strangers to film scoring — with two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes, an Emmy, and a GRAMMY under their belts — TRON: Ares represents a major creative evolution. This is Nine Inch Nails in full, unfiltered form, using the TRON universe as a canvas for their most viscerally charged work in years. The result is an explosive collision of analog grit and digital dread.
Reznor explains in an exclusive interview with Empire that they approached TRON: Ares as a Nine Inch Nails record first, not a traditional score. The result is an emotionally and sonically immersive body of work that pulses with menace, melancholy, and mechanical momentum.'
